Couple more shots from a magical evening at Smith Rocks, Ore. Scouted access to the Crooked River just west of the rocks, and although it is all private, there are a few empty, would-be housing developments, which allow one to stand mutely in front of a spectacular view (and wish for a pile of money to buy a spot along the Crooked River’s rim). Central Oregon’s economic slump meant there was nobody around, so I had it to myself. I imagine I could have even camped out here, and would not have been bothered. For views of the west side of the rocks without treading on private property, one needs to hike along the river downstream from the State Park, and cross the river to climb up the lava rocks for the perfect elevated shot of Crooked River in the foreground and the rocks as the main subject.
