Visiting Etosha National Park, in Namibia, I had still not seen a cheetah on this trip. Well, jackpot! Came upon this family near the road and not far from Etosha Pan (a truly enormous playa, or dried up lakebed). Only one other truck, a videographer, was there, and we were treated to beautiful light as the day waned and the cheetahs roused themselves from lazing around. Mom scanned the plain for potential dinner while the babies lay at the edge of the road fighting sleep. She made that little sound that momma cats make when they call their young, and they reluctantly followed her into the grassy bush. What a great experience. I feel so lucky. My African adventure is drawing to a close however, and I can’t for the life of me think of a more awesome, crazy, frustrating, beautiful place that would top this 3 months on the “dark” continent.
