Yesterday I took a hike up in the eastern Columbia River Gorge, at a favorite place in the spring when the flowers are beginning to bloom: Catherine Creek.  The yellow desert parsley and other blooms made much of the grassy hillsides yellow, and the mountain bikers outnumbered the hikers in the area around “Coyote Wall”.  This is a dramatic tilted escarpment on the Washington side of the Gorge near the town of Lyle, across the river and east of Hood River, Oregon.  It’s a place I’ve mountain biked before, but this time I was just hiking with my uncle, taking photos of the bikers.  This woman was on a new bike, so was a bit shy about going too fast.
