A great day at the barn.  Today was a little wild weather-wise, with strong showers and cool weather, but brilliant sunshine for brief moments as well.  The barn where my horses are kept is about 1/2 hour from southeast Portland, near Estacada, Oregon.  I spent the afternoon there, working with both of them in the arena while the rain (and some hail) came down, then riding my mare, Gold Dancer, when the sun came out.  These photos are of barn horses right after they were let out into the pasture late in the day.  At this barn, they are normally out in the pasture, even over night in warmer weather.  But if the weather is stormy, and the horses don’t express any interest in going out in the morning, they stay in their stalls.  What a concept, let the horses decide.  When they bust out, they go crazy for 10 or 15 minutes, running, kicking and rolling in the springtime mud (or grass if you’re a glass half-full type of person).  It makes me want to do the same.
