Lava Falls Rapid on the Colorado in Grand Canyon, the bottom of an extremely steep and dangerous hike down from Toroweap Point on the north rim.  I got very close to the white-water for this shot, and loved the feel of being close to a raging river again.  It’s been too long.  You could feel the rumble of large rocks being tumbled along the bottom of the river.  Powerful!  This is where John Wesley Powell (one of my heroes) had his major mishaps on his 1869 expedition.  He lost a boat, and two team members just up and walked out of the canyon & disappeared.  He went back a year later to look for them, and hiked out to Toroweap, something I got to do too right after I shot this (and I gained even more respect for him – whew was it tough!).
